Karomi was launched in 2007, in the quest for creating something inspired by tradition that also reflects our roots. It all started with a rustic four-hour journey to a small weaving village of rural Bengal, the pot hole ridden road took us to a quaint and scenic village where we discovered our master weaver. The innovative and intensive work that was put into the creations produced stunning work that eventually even took the creator by surprise. This emboldened our spirits so much so that we soon tied up with a few more weavers, found a dyer as well as a finisher and our journey well and truly began.

 Today, Karomi works with over a hundred rural and urban artisans across Bengal to create a premium and yet to be experienced aesthetic in the Indian handloom sector.

At Karomi, we use the traditional pit-loom method of weaving and our speciality is creating contemporary yet traditional “Jamdani” using the centuries old technique of using an extra weft weaving style unique to the ebullient landscapes of Bengal. Attention to detail has always been our mantra and that is well embedded in our handmade and natural products. Silk, wool, cotton and linen are some of the fibres that we use to create hand dyed, poetic masterpieces. A blend of artistic fervour that combines with the penchant for constant ideation in fabric innovation is our belief. Hand loom weaving further inspired us to explore kantha embroidery and hand-block printing as well and charted the course for some really timeless pieces. Our efforts and commitment were recognised by UNESCO and we were the proud recipients of UNESCO award of excellence for handicrafts for exquisite jamdani stoles in 2012 and 2014.
